HVIT temporarily closing due to health crisis

Dear HVIT Member,

We have decided to pause play at HVIT at the end of Saturday, December 5. When we opened in early October, there were a little over 100 active cases of COVID-19 in Ulster County. There are now more than 1,000 known active cases just nine weeks later. The numbers coming out of Dutchess County are equally disturbing. Experts believe these numbers will continue to grow over the next couple of weeks, and we feel it is irresponsible to be a gathering place for people from different households. As we stated from the very beginning, if we felt there was any chance that HVIT would be a vector for infections, we were going to close down. We are not that far away from being able to get vaccinated, and it seems unwise for our tennis community to take any further risk at this point.

We hope to reopen for singles play sometime in the next month or two if case counts and infection rates begin to decline. If they continue to decrease, we would then consider opening back up for doubles and clinic play. Everyone’s time slot is frozen as it was the week of November 30. If we are able to open for doubles and clinics, we will return to pre-Thanksgiving scheduled bookings. And, of course, everyone’s 2019-2020 pre-pandemic slots are being held for the 2021-2022 season.

Our best to everyone. Please be safe out there.

James and Matt
